20. The Mastery of Time
The final Module of Wisdom The Course, Module Twenty, The Mastery of Time, focusses fully on a variety of issues and wisdoms relating to this most mysterious and enigmatic of subjects. In this final presentation is both the enigmatic side of time, and the practical, everyday, functional aspects of time. This includes an address of the capacity for living in the moment, and the freedom from time that comes from awareness of that part of us that is aware of time – and is therefore also free of time, to The Mastery of Timing, and the practical side of our life’s experience of time, from increasing free time by removing ‘Egoic time’ and ‘False Self time’, managing our time better, The Mastery of Patience through Right Action, free time by design, and even, finally, thoughts on the length of time of our life, as we challenge our pre-exisiting notions of life being our ‘three score years and ten’, and even what we can do with that time.
“It’s not about being ‘good for your age’. It’s about being good, period. There is no clock, no biological clock, that says you cannot do it.” – David Heard
All in all, this is a wonderfully rich, and profoundly insightful Module’s teaching, which is simplified, as many wisdom attributes are, to a simple flow of positive or ‘Love’ Consciousness.
“So ‘living in the moment’ is not so much about denying the temporal (time) context of life, but of focussing on the Consciousness in hand.
You cannot ‘live in the moment’ in any moment in which you don’t believe that what you are doing is the right thing for you to be doing. Why? Because you will always be thinking about and focussing upon that which you do think to be the right thing for you to be doing – what you really want to be doing (or thinking – or not). Of course, in literal terms, we do always and can only live in the moment. What we are talking about here, though, is the focus of presence of mind in that moment.
This is why Fear is such a destroyer of lives – because it stops us from doing what we really want to be doing, and as such we sacrifice every moment of life, every Consciousness, to resign ourselves to doing only those cliched things which we aren’t afraid to do, which ultimately lacks any sense of meaning or fulfillment.” – James Blacker, taken from Wisdom The Course
This personal characteristic or strength also then leads to The Mastery of Patience, and The Mastery of Timing, and these will also be explained fully, with specific definitions of both being given.
Practical issues relating to time, and the realities of the modern life are also important things that matter, and so care is also taken to address these issues, also with useful insights to inspire - and to make sense of those places where we go wrong.
Finally, we look at how we can step into the future with a sense of hunger and abundance of years, rather than stepping tentatively into it with a sense that life is getting shorter.
That is no way to live a life, and so we need some really effective views and psychological approaches to age to make sure we don’t succumb to that kind of sense of dread at ‘the simple passing of time’.
“The more we see time and future years as abundant, or at least there to be enjoyed to the fullest, the more likely we are to fulfill that experience as a reality – and we will certainly experience our current moments with more fulfillment. So the most sensible and most logical approach is to step boldly into the future with passion and purpose. This is simply the power of belief in action. We must release our Egoic attachment to which side of the years we happen to be on in order to actually get the full benefit of them.” – James Blacker, taken from Wisdom The Course
This is a fascinating and compelling note to finish Wisdom, The Course on, and complete our Part Three journey of Self Mastery.
